The USA hosted Portugal at the Arena Amazonia in Manaus where both teams played to a 2-2 draw, the makings of an epic finish to the Group G campaign.

Portugal who had lost dismally to Germany needed a win from this game and the goal came in early for Portugal through Manchester United man Luis Nani in the 5th minute after a blunder in the American defence.

The Americans were adamant to get back to equal terms with the Portuguese advancing forward but with no goal just off target shots.

A nervous moment almost resulted in the United States equalising in the 54th minute when Portugal goal minder António Alberto Bastos Pimparel, commonly known as Beto was well beaten but America’s Michael Bradley struck the ball directly in Ricardo Costa’s direction despite the empty net.

It was in 64 minute that Jermaine Jones equalised for America through a beautiful right curler strike leaving Beto stunned in one position without moving.

The situation merited Portugal coach, Paulo Bento’s decision to substitute midfielder Raul Meireles for forward Silvestre Varela in the attempt to be in the lead again.

The Portuguese headache worsened in the 81st minute through Captain and professional rapper, Clint Dempsey who made it 2-1 after a rebound from Bradley’s shot.

A dream cross from Ronaldo in the 95th minute saw substitute Silvestre Varela equalise with a header stopping the already in session celebrations by the Americans.

The Group of Death as it has come to be known now looks more interesting with Germany on 4, USA 4, Ghana 1 and Portugal 1.

Should Ghana hope to go through they will need to beat Portugal with a handsome score line with the same going for Portugal.
