Italy who had to do without their captain and goalkeeper in their first game against England had their goal minder for this clash, however Gianni Buffon didn’t have to do much as not many balls did not make it to the goalkeeper.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper however had to deal to with the likes of Mario Ballotelli who missed a golden opportunity in the 28th minute after a beautiful cross from veteran midfielder Andrea Pirlo.

The scale dipped in the Costa Rican favour in the 45th minute after Bryan Ruiz’s header defeated Gianni Buffon.

The second half kicked off with both coaches choosing to leave the line ups as is, the Costa Ricans did however push forward more.

The Italian coach brought on Lorenzo Insigne for Antonio Candreva in the 56th minute to try and add to the Italian arsenal, but the Napoli forward was unable to tilt the scale.

England who had hoped Italy would beat Costa Rica so they could keep their World Cup hopes alive are now at the bottom of Group D and they will exit their 2014 campaign.
