University of Pretoria are uncomfortable lying second from bottom of the Absa Premiership log, saying they want to move out of the relegation zone immediately.
They hope to start moving in the right direction against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth at 7.30pm tonight.
AmaTuks captain Tebogo Monyai said they won’t underestimate United, who raided the transfer market soon after regaining promotion.
“I saw Chippa in the two opening games. They were in top form when they defeated Platinum Stars 2-0 in their opening league game,” he said.
“Chippa put up a great show against SuperSport United despite narrowly losing 1-0 last week, we cannot afford to underestimate them.
“I know we are two games into the new season but we don’t want to be associated with three words – early relegation candidates.
“That is why we need a win to move up on the log as quickly as possible,” added said Monyai, whose club lost 1-0 to Polokwane City and drew one-all with Bidvest Wits.
Elsewhere, new Mpumalanga Black Aces striker Aubrey Ngoma is settling in well and hopes to contribute to the success of the club.
Ngoma will spearhead Aces’ attack when they welcome Platinum Stars for their clash at Mbombela Stadium tonight. The striker joined AmaZayoni last month from Orlando Pirates.
“I have been enjoying myself here, I’m playing. Everybody has been good to me and it’s such a wonderful environment,” said Ngoma, who scored on his debut during their 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.
“I hope to score against Stars and some other games where possible, which is what I’m employed for. For me the most important thing is the success of the club.”
From Stars’ camp, captain Vuyo Mere said they will only focus on Sunday’s MTN8 semifinal second leg against Chiefs after tonight’s game.
“We take each game as it comes. We also want to do well in the league campaign. You never know, anything can happen in football.”
